Youth Sports Festival

Thursday 16 February 2012

Stanley Deason Leisure Centre, Whitehawk

12.45-4pm

A mini-festival of free sports activities for young people aged 13+ is being held on Thursday 16 February from 12.45pm to 4pm at the Stanley Deason Leisure Centre in Whitehawk, Brighton.

Activities include cricket sessions run by Sussex County Cricket Club, football with Albion in the Community, judo with Brighton Judo Club, street dance, gym, rock climbing and basketball.

It's the city's first ‘Street Games' festival - named after the national charity that works with sports projects around the country to get more young people active in their local communities. The event has been organised by Brighton & Hove City Council's Active for Life team in partnership with Freedom Leisure.

The council's cabinet member for children and young people, Councillor Sue Shanks, is going along. She said: "Street Games is an excellent charity because it has a very local focus.

"We already have a number of their projects around the city, but this is the first time that we've pulled them all together for a single event where young people can try out a wide range of different sports free of charge."
